It's here!

My dishes arrived and were ceremoniously unpacked, washed, dried, and put away by the entire family.

Then bidding began. "I want turquoise", "I want plum", and on it went! We got enough different colors for each person to "claim" 2 each. Interestingly enough, I think, my daughter who is in college picked 3 different colors, two of which hadn't been picked yet. So that worked out good. I ended up with sunflower and either lemongrass or shamrock for the colors that were left for me. The college student will probably want to claim the lemongrass instead of shamrock when she actually sees it!

First Meal Starring Fiesta!

Here are a few photos of my new bowls serving up some "roll your own" spring rolls tonight.

Yay! Macy's Fiesta Sale Was Better In Store Than Online!

So what did I get?

I found two Macy's exclusive sets that I wanted.  The chip and dip bowl (scarlet) and the Pasta Bowl w/shaker (Turquoise).  When I went up to the checkout, the sweet lady asked if I found what I wanted in the colors I want.  Well, I said, I'd love to have the chip and dip in Lemongrass.  So she went to the back and found one!  Yay!

So, after buying one, and getting one free + 15% off, I was a pretty happy camper when I left.  :)

Photos coming soon!

Just checked in on my order, and according to the website, my order shipped 52 minutes ago.  Hmm  I guess it's just time to wait for the box/es to arrive!  I am like a kid before Christmas.  I just can't wait.

I found this great site that tries to show all of the different dishes made in each color both post 86 and vintage.

I guess this gives me a worksheet to start checking off each piece of my collection. Oh my there are a lot of pieces to obtain! Should I get one of each??? More? Oh my!

Ready to say goodbye!

Here's what my pitiful dish cabinet looks like currently. I am counting the days until I can send this sorry lot to the goodwill store where they belong. :)

Macy's visit

I stopped by to "pet" my future dishes, and found this little ornament on the clearance rack. I'm not sure what the point of this is, but I figured I better get it before too much time passed and regret set in.

It is like a little plate with a tab at the top for hanging.

It is a 75th anniversary edition and says 1936-2011. The color is marigold.

Let the waiting begin

What is a girl supposed to do while waiting for an Internet order to arrive?

Continue to tempt yourself, of course. Dreaming of all the pieces you will have in your china hutch one day. Right now, I'm just thinking I want to collect post '86, but what would I do if I found an older piece at a great price? You know what I'm talking about. I'd snatch that puppy right up. Here are some places to help you determine if the price is a good deal while you are out hunting for these beauties.

This is a great resource if you want to know more about vintage FW. The best, I do believe from my three weeks of research. Ha ha

Order placed

After three weeks of scouring the internet for information and looking for the best price on my first Fiesta Dishes, I have finally ordered them from Homer Laughlin Direct. They have great prices on place settings, and a current sale of buy 4 and get a 5th free.

I ended up ordering 10 place settings total. 5 with java mugs and 5 with cup and saucer. It was the only way I could get all of the colors I wanted. I was going to order the square, but they were out of stock in several colors and I couldn't get all of the colors i wanted. Guess I'll have to get some of those next time.

I am super excited to throw out all of the old dishes and make my cabinets start to sing with happiness.

Obsessions

Everything has to start somewhere.

I am at the beginning of a journey. Who knows if it will be long or short. Will this trek take me to the ends of the earth? Doubtful. In fact, I can predict with certainty, that it will not. Around the USA, maybe... via the internet. But the most likely place I will end up in both body and spirit is West Virginia.

I have never really had any desire to go to WV before now, but the seed has been planted. And as most sane people know, and obsession that has begun as a passing mention by a friend, can grow out of control as fast as the beanstalk that Jack planted. The seed is in the ground, and I've added enough water and fertilizer to get it firmly rooted.

It was innocent enough at first. A post by a friend on facebook. She simply posted a photo of some dishes. Her new fiestaware! And it was as if I heard a crescendo of angels singing. The bright bold colors make my soul sing. These dishes are perfectly timeless. How could I have resisted for so many years. Why didn't I see it before?

I was immediately transported back in time to my childhood where I saw these dishes at my Aunt Dorthy's house. I loved the color as a child and I have never really grown out of that. I've always embraced the brighter colors in a box of 64 crayons. The patchwork quilts that I love are filled with vibrant hues.

I find myself wanting to know more. Scouring the internet has left me wanting to dialogue with collectors. I want to ask questions and find out what they love most and why. I have not found an ideal place to communicate with other fiesta lovers out there, so that's why this blog was started. Maybe it will be a place for fiesta fans to gather.
